Adventure Awaits

Hafa Adai family and friends! That means hello in Chamarro, the native language to Guam. I've decided to create a blog about our experiences leading up to and during our time living in Guam. Considering that we will be 14 hours ahead of east coasters and 17 hours ahead for west coasters, we thought this would be a great idea to keep everyone informed of what's happening in our lives! We hate to be so far away from you all, but thankful that we don't have to hop on ships or wait months for letters to arrive. Thank you skype :)

A little about this beautiful island:

1) It is not very large, about 30 by 12 miles wide.
2) It's located in between Japan and Australia- for those of you wondering where in the heck this place is.
3) It's a US territory.
4) They get a huge amount of Japanese tourists, so it's not uncommon to find their language and culture embedded everywhere. (I can't wait for awesome sushi!)
5) English and Chamorro are the official languages. The Chamorro make up about 45% of the population.
6) Their motto is "Where America's day begins".
7) Guam is the closest land mass to the Mariana Trench- deepest part of the ocean- yikes!
8) It is not volcanically active, but there is one close by in the Mariana Islands.
9) Record high is 96 degrees and record low is 65 degrees ;)
10) Supposedly it has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world!
11) There are huge coconut crabs that live on the island- not a ton- but thats what gave us the name for our website url. And our dog, Nala of course.
12) We definitely plan to travel to countries nearby! New Zealand and Japan are on the top of our lists ;)
13) And just a little perspective- the flight from Orlando,FL to Guam is about 17 hours not including layovers.

*An update for those who don't know, our dates have been pushed back. However, this means we will get to come home for Christmas and New years! And we are very excited about that. Especially before we embark on our next chapter in life.
